Spark the Fire: May 29th - 31st 2009

SPARK THE FIRE ::
World-renowned presenters and entertainers are joining 1,000 Denver yogis and friends, for the most phenomenal event in the history of Denver yoga. This event promises to intensify our individual sacred journeys while expanding the service of yoga into our greater Denver community - transforming both. In addition to deepening our yoga study, Spark The Fire will provide opportunities for community resource networking and very real livelihood support for yoga teachers and practitioners (see Yoga Tavern events). If you enjoy studying yoga or teaching yoga and wish to see yoga continue to flourish in Denver - We welcome you to Spark The Fire!

“Many of our current global challenges represent how alienated
from the practice of true community we have become.”
- Micah Springer, founding member of CYSC

Community
The word community is widely used in our yoga ethos. And while we have an understanding of the community we belong to and have fostered, this concept is far from modern, far from our creation. In fact many of our current global challenges represent how alienated from the practice of true community we have become. This weekend is an opportunity to explore the possibilities of community; both in its origins and through our vision of its future. [ more info ]

The Presenters
We have invited teachers and speakers, many of whom have spent most of their lives in village community. The presenters, experts at facilitating the noble and often forgotten spirit life of each individual, will bring a unique clarity as we are being called upon to shift our global paradigm and our community ethos. Supporting Non-Profit
This fund-raising, awareness-raising event will contribute 100% of proceeds to community non-profits. Spark the Fire is a never-before-seen event dedicated to preparing our yoga community to adapt to our current economic and environmental changes and challenges. [ more info ]

The Yoga Tavern
Many individuals from our immediate yoga community are facing the reality of this current economic collapse. Spark the Fire is working to answer the question, “What can we do now to support and stimulate our Denver yoga community?” Spark The Fire “Yoga Tavern” events will serve as our community gathering place, dedicated to collectively focusing on these challenges of loss of livelihood while exploring very real solutions. Teaching Children
"~Goodness and Peace up! Dance! The GODDESS lives in all of us.........~
After spending many years in the corporate sector, leading and managing large teams, events, and a retail store, I got to a point where I had to make a shift. I was feeling burnt out. My son, Evan (two years old at the time), rarely got to see his mom. It was time for a serious change.

In July 2001, I headed to Sedona, AZ for my first Yoga teacher’s training, in the Bihar school. Prior to this, I had taken two Zen mind yoga classes and knew almost nothing of what I was about to step into. After my 30 days at the Yoga school, I went home, collected my Son, shipped the things I wanted to keep (which was very little), and moved down to Arizona to further practice and begin to teach.
A terrible car accident in 1995 had changed the left side of my body forever....or so I thought. Yoga was beginning to show me that I had the power to restore my body, my family, and my life! I had found my calling. With faith, I made the leap.

Since stepping into that current of Grace, I have offered yoga classes in Arizona, Aspen, and now Boulder. Although I call Boulder my home, my heart is free to move about the globe, bringing the practice of Yoga where ever it is needed.

Having a classical Ballet background, and a musical household to grow up in, I integrate chanting, dance and play into my teaching.
I have studied massage, Reiki, Skin care, Herbal medicine, Natural Child birthing methods, Trauma release, and Sanskrit. Over the last 2 years I have studied at Naropa University, in Boulder, CO., with Nataraja Kallio. His 1000 hour Teacher's training has deepened my practice and my ability to serve. I simply must mention that my children (Evan, now ten, and my five year old daughter, Gaia), have been my greatest teacher's.

Yoga has empowered me. It has changed my life, changed my body (I'm actually an inch taller!), and “Shaktified” me beyond my wildest dreams! I am now most passionate about sharing my experience with all I meet. Seva is what I was born to do and by grace, I am now able to offer that same richness that was offered to me--to others. My goal is to touch as many lives as possible with the gift of Inner power."

Erika Diane Hohn is a yoga instructor from all over, born and raised in South Dakota, and then after many travels, from Boston to Sedona, AZ, Missoula to Charelston, S.C....she found a home in Colorado. First in the Aspen Valley for four years, and now permanently in Boulder sweet, Boulder! Erika’s founded Sweet Pea Yoga and specializes in yoga for children, reviving tribal birthing techniques, and infant bonding. Through her teaching, she inspires children to be socially and environmentally conscious, as well as dramatically impacts their ability to self soothe, nurture and respect their own growth and change!
